Roles & Responsibilities
- Audit medical records for accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding assignments with attention to detail
- Compile clear, actionable audit reports and analyze findings to drive improvements
- Validate that chosen codes are fully supported by clinical documentation
- Communicate findings to providers and recommend documentation enhancements in a professional, educational manner
- Design and implement tools and education in collaboration with the Revenue Cycle Manager to strengthen provider documentation
- Train and mentor new revenue cycle team members on coding and documentation best practices
- Support coding and billing staff with on-demand coding assistance and problem resolution
- Maintain audit logs and documentation to ensure compliance and track performance metrics
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required
- Associate degree in a related field — required; Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
- Minimum five (5) years' combined inpatient/outpatient coding and auditing experience
- Proven experience with professional physician coding in office-based settings
- Experience interacting with physicians to provide feedback and education
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for provider education and report writing
- Experience compiling audit reports and maintaining audit lodges
- Ability to train new employees and contribute to team development
Education
- Associate Degree in a related field (required)
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding guidelines
- Professional physician coding expertise and auditing methodologies
- Clinical documentation review and documentation improvement strategies
- Revenue cycle management fundamentals and charge entry awareness
- Multi-specialty coding experience and physician interaction skills
- Report compilation, data analysis, and maintaining audit logs
- Provider education techniques and training new staff
