Shift Type: Rotating 24-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:00 AM (24-hour in-house call), approximately 6-7 shifts per month; varied days (schedule set by facility), must adhere to rule of no more than two consecutive 24-hour shifts

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert inpatient OB hospitalist care for OBED patients and emergent obstetric cases
- Manage vaginal deliveries and perform cesarean sections when needed
- Care for patients without a primary OBGYN and ensure safe handoffs
- Respond to and coordinate maternity transports as the only maternity transport team in-state
- Work collaboratively with MFM specialists and residents as available to optimize patient outcomes
- Document care thoroughly in Epic to maintain continuity and quality
Qualifications
- MD or DO with completion of an accredited OB/GYN residency
- Board certified or board eligible in Obstetrics & Gynecology (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in inpatient OB hospitalist care, including vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections
- Comfort managing emergent obstetric patients and maternity transports
- Experience using Epic electronic medical record
- Willingness and ability to work 24-hour in-house shifts and adhere to site rules (no more than two consecutive 24-hour shifts)
- Locum tenens availability and willingness to travel — facility is not accepting local Des Moines providers
Education
- MD or DO
- Completion of OB/GYN residency
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical judgment in obstetrics and emergent OB management
- Proficiency with Epic EMR for inpatient documentation and orders
- Familiarity with OBED workflows and inpatient hospitalist responsibilities
- Ability to coordinate with MFM, imaging, lab and pharmacy services quickly and effectively
- Calm, decisive communication skills during high-acuity events
- Comfort supervising care autonomously (no APP supervision required)
