Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform accurate venipuncture and capillary draws with care and efficiency
- Collect, label and process specimens following strict chain-of-custody and quality protocols
- Verify patient identity and explain procedures to help patients feel at ease
- Maintain meticulous documentation in electronic and paper records
- Follow infection control and safety policies to protect patients and staff
- Communicate clearly with nursing and lab teams to ensure timely specimen handling
- Participate in orientation and ongoing training to keep skills sharp
Qualifications
- Phlebotomy certification or completion of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred
- Previous phlebotomy experience in a clinical or institutional setting is a plus
- Ability to pass required background checks and facility clearance
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with diverse patient populations
- Basic computer skills for electronic charting and specimen tracking
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; phlebotomy certification preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Proven venipuncture technique and specimen collection best practices
- Familiarity with specimen labeling, handling, and transport requirements
- Knowledge of infection control, PPE use, and safety procedures
- Good communication and patient-relations skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
