Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on psychiatric care to patients in a correctional medical setting
- Observe, assess, and document behavioral and clinical changes accurately and promptly
- Support therapeutic activities and assist with implementing individualized care plans
- Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain a safe environment
- Collaborate closely with nurses, physicians, and mental health professionals to coordinate care
- Maintain clear, professional documentation and communicate effectively with the care team
- Promote dignity, respect, and patient rights while working within facility policies
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential required (California preferred)
- Willingness and ability to complete a 2-week orientation as part of the assignment
- Comfort working in a correctional healthcare environment and following facility protocols
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team-based setting
- Reliable, professional, and committed to providing high-quality behavioral healthcare
Education
- Completion of an accredited psychiatric technician training program or equivalent
- Active LPT license required
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in patient observation, behavioral assessment, and documentation
- Experience or ability in de-escalation and therapeutic communication techniques
- Knowledge of basic psychiatric interventions and safety protocols
- Familiarity with medication administration support and monitoring (as permitted by scope)
- Ability to follow care plans and work collaboratively with clinical teams
