Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing meaningful occupational therapy treatment plans under the supervision of an OTR
• Provide hands-on skilled interventions to improve patients' daily living skills and independence
• Document patient progress accurately and timely, ensuring continuity of care
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered care
• Train patients and caregivers in adaptive techniques, home programs, and safe transfers
• Maintain therapy equipment and ensure a safe therapeutic environment
• Contribute to discharge planning by communicating functional status and recommendations

Qualifications

• Current Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) credential
• Active or eligible for New Mexico OT assistant licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Comfortable working all days of the week, including weekends as scheduled
• Clean background check and ability to pass required drug screening
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
• Prior experience in skilled nursing, inpatient rehab, or long-term care is a plus

Education

• Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant or completion of an accredited OTA program (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of ADL/IADL training and adaptive equipment recommendations
• Skilled in therapeutic activity planning and implementation
• Proficient documentation habits and familiarity with clinical charting
• Good clinical reasoning and patient-centered communication skills
• Ability to assess functional mobility and recommend appropriate interventions
• Familiarity with infection control and safety best practices
