Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients' communication and swallowing function using evidence-based evaluations
• Develop individualized treatment plans that restore function and improve quality of life
• Deliver skilled therapy sessions and adapt approaches to each patient’s needs
• Document clinical progress and maintain accurate, timely records
• Collaborate closely with nurses, therapists, and family members for coordinated care
• Provide caregiver training and education to support discharge and ongoing progress
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to rehab planning

Qualifications

• Licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) — state license required to practice in Virginia
• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
• ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred
• Experience in skilled nursing, inpatient rehab, or post-acute care preferred
• Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain quickly
• Clear background check and up-to-date immunizations as required by facility

Education

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
• ASHA CCC-SLP preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in dysphagia assessment and management and safe swallowing strategies
• Experience with adult communication and cognitive-communication disorders
• Comfortable with clinical documentation and electronic health records
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
• Good time management and caseload prioritization
• Ability to educate and support caregivers and family members
