Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Day) OR 4x10 schedule: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM with Regular Days Off (RDOs) as noted; Orientation: 2 weeks, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $64 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and lead person-centered recreational therapy programs that support mental health recovery and functional gains
- Assess patient needs and document progress to tailor interventions and demonstrate outcomes
- Facilitate engaging group activities that build skills, coping strategies, and social connections
- Collaborate closely with occupational therapy, nursing, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care
- Adapt activities for safety and accessibility while maintaining dignity and therapeutic value
- Provide education and support to patients and families on recreational strategies that promote wellbeing
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and adhere to facility policies and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Experience working in recreational therapy or therapeutic recreation, ideally in mental health or correctional settings
- Current credential or certification in recreational/therapeutic recreation preferred (e.g., CTRS) or equivalent per facility requirements
- Valid state licensure or ability to obtain any required facility credentials and clearances
- Strong group facilitation skills and demonstrated ability to lead therapeutic activities
- Comfort collaborating within a multidisciplinary team and following structured protocols
- Ability to complete a two-week, Monday–Friday orientation
Education
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related human services/health field preferred
- Relevant coursework or continuing education in mental health and therapeutic modalities is a plus
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of mental health principles and therapeutic activity planning
- Skill in group leadership, activity adaptation, and behavior management strategies
- Proficiency with documentation standards and outcome measurement
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients and staff
- Ability to maintain safety, boundaries, and professional conduct in a secure facility
