Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality couplet care across L&D, delivery and postpartum — from admission through post-delivery stabilization
• Circulate for cesarean sections and manage the intraoperative nursing role confidently
• Serve as the NRP 'baby catcher' when assigned and lead neonatal resuscitation when needed
• Titrate and manage drips such as Pitocin according to orders and protocols
• Perform fetal monitoring and interpret EFM/ECG strips, escalating concerns promptly
• Collaborate with OB hospitalists, anesthesia, neonatology and the interdisciplinary team for safe patient outcomes
• Document thoroughly in Cerner and communicate bedside report at shift change
• Float to other nearby Sacramento facilities as required and support unit surge needs

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the United States (California licensure required for practice)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN-Advanced and Advanced Fetal Monitoring required; STABLE preferred
• Comfort circulating C-sections and providing full LDRP responsibilities
• Ability to titrate drips (Pitocin) and manage OB-specific emergencies
• Willingness to float to other Sacramento facilities and respond on-call within 30 minutes
• Successful prescreening with required supervisory references (per facility policy)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred but not required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN-Advanced, Advanced Fetal Monitoring

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor and Delivery workflows and couplet care best practices
• Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and newborn stabilization
• Electronic fetal monitoring (GE Corometrics / Fetalink) and EKG strip interpretation
• Cerner charting and clinical documentation
• Operating room circulation for C-sections and perioperative teamwork
• Ability to recognize and manage common OB diagnoses: preterm labor, hemorrhage, hypertension, inductions
• Strong communication, triage and bedside-report skills
