Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide thorough patient assessments and bedside care for neuro-telemetry patients (CVA, TBI, spinal surgery, brain tumor, trached patients, ESRD and neuro-psych cases)
- Continuously monitor telemetry and interpret EKGs to detect dysrhythmias and act promptly
- Administer and titrate critical medications (heparin, amiodarone, diltiazem) per protocol while monitoring responses
- Perform specialty skills after SIMs validation—Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes—while maintaining sterile technique
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including RT, pharmacy, and SWAT IV team to ensure coordinated care
- Float to cardiac telemetry, ICU overflow, and med-surg as needed, maintaining high standards across units
- Participate in bedside report and support unit throughput in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment
- Take light charge assignments when scheduled and work alongside nurse aides to deliver excellent patient care
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to submit; will wait if necessary)
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience (neuro experience highly valued)
- MUST HAVE Level 1 trauma experience
- Current BLS, ACLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Prior 12-hour night shift experience preferred/expected
- Ability to interpret EKGs and pass a dysrhythmia competency exam (two attempts allowed)
- Willingness to complete SIMs Lab skills (Foley insertion, central line dressing change) and maintain sterile field
- Travel teams must have their own vehicle; must meet facility appearance/fit-test requirements (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men clean-shaven for fit test)
Education
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and neuro telemetry experience
- EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia recognition
- Sterile technique for line care and wound management
- Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing change competency
- Medication titration and cardiac medication management
- Patient assessment and rapid clinical decision-making
- Experience with Cerner EMR and acute care documentation
- IV access skills, wound care, tracheostomy care, and familiarity with SWAT IV processes
- Ability to work in a 1:4 ratio environment and manage multiple complex patients
