Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality progressive care to PCU patients with diverse diagnoses including trauma and ortho needs
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond promptly to dysrhythmias and rapid response events
• Perform IV starts, manage lines (PICC, central, peripheral) and handle blood product administration safely
• Administer medications and manage cardiac and insulin drips per protocol
• Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
• Collaborate with respiratory, PT, pharmacy, social services and the rapid response team for coordinated care
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, procedures and discharge plans to support recovery
• Float to other units as needed while maintaining excellent patient care standards

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (per state requirements)
• Minimum 2 years of PCU or progressive care nursing experience
• BLS and ACLS required
• EPIC charting experience required
• Telemetry experience required
• Comfort working night shifts and participating in required weekend coverage
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
• Previous charge experience and trauma level I exposure preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Progressive care and telemetry monitoring expertise
• IV therapy, blood product administration and central/PICC line care
• Interpretation of ABGs and dysrhythmias
• Tracheostomy and chest tube care, HFNC and BiPAP/CPAP management
• Wound care including wound vac and surgical drain management
• Familiarity with heparin protocols, insulin drips and cardiac drip management
• Strong patient education, documentation and interdisciplinary communication skills
