Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to neonates in the NICU
- Perform skilled assessments and monitor vital signs, interpreting changes and escalating appropriately
- Administer medications and IV therapy safely and document care accurately in the medical record
- Assist with neonatal resuscitation and stabilization in collaboration with the team
- Deliver family-centered education, support and clear communication to parents and caregivers
- Participate in unit-specific competency exams, specialty skills checklists and quality initiatives
- Maintain strict infection control, screening and immunization compliance per facility requirements
Qualifications
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license (required)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (required)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification (required)
- DCI/BVP certification listed as required in order documentation
- Completion of Prime Core Competencies, Prime Skills Checklist and Prime Specialty Exam (per order)
- Compliance with facility health requirements (COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, TB testing, Varicella, Tdap, Influenza and drug screening)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong neonatal assessment and monitoring skills
- Comfort with NICU equipment and specialty care (incubators, monitors, basic ventilator support/assists)
- Ability to perform neonatal resuscitation and follow NRP protocols
- Excellent communication and family education skills
- Accurate documentation and familiarity with electronic medical records
- Teamwork, adaptability, and a calm approach in high-acuity situations
