Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, high-quality care to MedSurg and Post-OR Recovery patients, maintaining safe 1:5 patient ratios
- Monitor and manage patient status including respiratory support like nasal cannula and basic airway care
- Perform thorough assessments, initiate appropriate interventions, and escalate concerns to the care team
- Document all patient care accurately and efficiently in EPIC
- Float to other units within scope as needed while maintaining standards of care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Participate in orientation, complete required competencies, and pass the open-book skills exam with a 90% score
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska or eligibility via compact licensure
- BLS certification required at time of submission
- Valid driver's license required at time of submission (used to verify radius eligibility)
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (MedSurg experience highly preferred)
- Charge nurse experience preferred (at least 1 year for charge responsibilities)
- EPIC charting experience preferred
- Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts and able to float within scope
- First-time travel nurses are welcome — orientation and support provided
Education
- Active RN license required; ADN or BSN acceptable (BSN not required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong MedSurg and post-operative recovery clinical knowledge
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record documentation
- Solid patient assessment and critical thinking skills
- Familiarity with BLS and adherence to ACLS/BLS safety protocols
- Experience with respiratory support such as nasal cannula
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to adapt to changing unit needs and maintain professionalism under pressure
- Awareness of facility policies (e.g., fingernail/artificial nail restrictions) and infection control practices
