Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to med/surg patients (post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, infection)
- Assess patients, develop and implement individualized care plans, and document in Cerner
- Titrate heparin drips per unit protocols and monitor patient response
- Maintain strict sterile technique during procedures and central line dressing changes
- Perform Foley catheter insertion competently and complete SIMs Lab skills as required
- Collaborate with charge RN, resource RN, RT and interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
- Float to other med/surg or telemetry units as needed while maintaining high standards of care
- Participate in unit orientation and complete required training (lifts, restraints, wound care, SIMs Lab)
Qualifications
- Active RN license in the state of practice (or compact privilege as applicable)
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg nursing experience
- Must have Level 1 Trauma experience (required)
- BLS certification (required); ACLS as applicable/desired
- Proficiency with Cerner charting preferred
- Competence with Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass required)
- Ability to titrate heparin drips
- Travel-ready: reliable vehicle for travel teams, able to complete pre-employment DYS exam (2 attempts allowed)
- Facility grooming/policy requirements: natural hair color, no facial piercings; males must be clean-shaven for fit testing
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma accepted; BSN not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong MedSurg clinical judgment and trauma care skills
- Sterile technique and infection prevention practices
- Foley catheter insertion and urinary management
- Central line care and dressing change competency
- Heparin titration and safe medication administration
- Telemetry familiarity (preferred) and ability to float to tele units
- Wound care, restraints, and safe patient handling (lifts)
- Charting and documentation accuracy using Cerner
