Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and manage acute med/surg patients with skill, compassion, and clinical judgment
• Administer medications and titrate Heparin per unit protocols safely and accurately
• Perform and document procedures and wound care following sterile technique
• Maintain sterile field during Foley catheter insertions and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass required)
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, charge RN, and resource RN to ensure safe patient throughput
• Float competently to other med/surg and telemetry areas as needed to support the unit
• Provide clear, timely charting in Cerner to maintain high-quality patient records
• Support unit culture by following facility policies (including fit test and grooming standards) and participating in unit education

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license per state requirements
• Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg nursing experience
• Required: Level 1 trauma experience (explicit must-have)
• BLS certification required; other certifications as applicable
• Competency with Heparin titration (unit titrates Heparin only)
• Experience with Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing change (SIMs Lab competency expected)
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Comfort floating to telemetry and med/surg units; telemetry experience preferred
• Must pass facility-required DYS exam prior to acceptance (2 attempts allowed)
• Travel-team requirements: own vehicle; facility grooming/fit-test standards (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men clean-shaven for fit test)

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong Med/Surg clinical assessment and prioritization skills
• Trauma care fundamentals and familiarity with Level 1 trauma workflows
• Hands-on skills: Foley insertion, central line dressing changes, wound care, lifts and restraints procedures
• Heparin titration and drip management (no cardiac gtts on unit)
• Electronic charting in Cerner and clear clinical documentation
• Ability to work autonomously on night shift and collaborate with house supervisor and managers
• Comfort interpreting basic telemetry if floated to other units (preferred)
