Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert Med/Tele and PCU-level nursing care for adult and geriatric patients, including post-cardiac cath and EP study care
- Assess, monitor and interpret ECG/telemetry strips and initiate appropriate interventions
- Safely titrate and manage IV drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, low-dose Dopamine) per protocols
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, trachs and High Flow/Airvo and collaborate with RTs
- Document timely, accurate patient care in EPIC and communicate changes in condition to the interdisciplinary team
- Assist as charge nurse when needed and support nursing assistants/patient care techs to maintain unit flow
- Float to PCU, medical-surgical or assist with ER holds as unit needs demand, keeping patient safety front and center
Qualifications
- Active RN licensure (state-specific; compact license may be beneficial) ready for placement
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience — Med/Tele or PCU experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Proven ability to read and interpret telemetry/ECG strips independently
- Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips safely
- EPIC charting experience preferred
- Comfortable with rotating 12-hour shifts, every-other-weekend staffing, and occasional float assignments
- Not eligible if currently full-time/part-time/PRN with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities (radius rule applies)
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma accepted; BSN welcomed but not required
- Completion of unit-specific orientation (2 x 12-hour shifts) prior to solo assignment
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid telemetry and cardiac nursing skills with strong ECG interpretation ability
- Competence in IV drip titration and familiarity with commonly used cardiac drips
- Experience with PCU/stepdown level care and post-cardiac cath/pacemaker patient management
- Proficiency troubleshooting BiPAP, trach care and high-flow devices
- Comfort using EPIC for documentation and communication
- Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to mentor others and step into charge responsibilities as needed
