Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, includes weekends (typically 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks) and holiday coverage; may be placed on standby and required to float between ICU and Tele units

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert neuro-critical care for complex neurosurgical and neurotrauma patients using strong neuro assessment skills
- Manage intracranial pressure monitoring and care of patients with EVDs and other neurosurgical devices
- Operate and interpret ventilator settings and collaborate with respiratory therapy for optimal ventilator management
- Maintain sterile technique for procedures such as Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, and complete SIMs Lab competencies
- Float between ICU and Tele units as needed while safely managing varying patient ratios
- Document patient care accurately in Cerner and communicate effectively during shift handoffs
- Serve as a supportive colleague and, when assigned, assist in charge or leadership duties without patient assignment
Qualifications
- Active RN license (able to submit and willing to wait if necessary)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds) required
- Required: Level 1 trauma experience and EVD (external ventricular drain) experience
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
- Proven competence in ICP monitoring, neuro assessment, and ventilator management
- Comfortable with floating to Tele units and managing a 4:1 load on Tele when assigned
- Travel nurse experience of 3-6 months preferred
- Must be able to complete and pass SIMs Lab and unit pass/fail exams; meet facility appearance and fit-test requirements (natural hair color, no facial piercings, men clean-shaven for fit test)
Education
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Neuro assessment and monitoring, including ICP and EVD management
- Critical care nursing and ICU workflow, including 1:2 patient ratios in Neuro ICU
- Mechanical ventilator management and collaboration with RT
- Proficiency in Cerner electronic medical record documentation
- Sterile technique for vascular access and catheter care (Foley, central lines)
- Experience with Phillips monitoring systems and telemetry
- Ability to float across units, adapt quickly, and prioritize patient safety
