Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients with hand and upper extremity conditions and establish individualized, evidence-based treatment plans
• Deliver skilled hand therapy interventions including manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and functional task training
• Fabricate and fit custom splints and orthoses to support healing and function
• Collaborate with surgeons, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate high-quality outpatient care
• Document thorough, timely clinical notes and progress toward measurable goals
• Educate patients and caregivers on home programs, activity modifications, and injury prevention
• Monitor outcomes and adjust interventions to maximize patient independence and return to daily activities
• Contribute to a positive clinic environment by mentoring support staff and participating in quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• California OT license required
• Registered Occupational Therapist credential preferred (OTR)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of prior experience in outpatient hand therapy
• Comfortable with outpatient hand clinic workflows and splinting responsibilities
• Open to travel/contract assignments; first-time travelers welcome
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team

Education

• Degree in Occupational Therapy (Bachelor's or Master's) with OTR credential preferred
• Current California state licensure as an Occupational Therapist

Knowledge & Skills

• Hand therapy principles and protocols including splint fabrication
• Manual therapy techniques and therapeutic exercise for the upper extremity
• Knowledge of common post-surgical and trauma-related hand conditions
• Proficiency in patient education and home program design
• Solid documentation practices and familiarity with electronic medical records
• Excellent clinical reasoning, time management, and caseload prioritization
• Collaborative approach to working with surgeons, PTs, and clinic staff
