Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and document patients’ physical condition each shift, monitoring for clinical changes and notifying physicians as needed
• Create individualized care plans based on thorough initial interviews and ongoing assessment
• Administer medications and perform treatments safely and in accordance with hospital policy
• Provide patient and family education, ensuring understanding of care, discharge plans, and post-service needs
• Initiate and coordinate discharge planning to help patients transition home safely
• Collaborate with medical staff to advance patient goals and support interdisciplinary care
• Document interventions and patient responses thoroughly to support continuity of care
• Participate in performance improvement activities and competency validation to maintain high standards of care
• Attend required staff, trauma, and departmental meetings to stay aligned with unit expectations

Qualifications

• Active Montana RN license required
• Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
• Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification required
• ACLS and NRP certifications required within 12 months of hire
• PALS and TNCC certifications required within 18 months of hire
• Ability to function independently in the Special Care Unit within 18 months
• Experience in emergency nursing, trauma care, or special care units preferred
• Commitment to attending required meetings and meeting departmental performance expectations

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing required
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in patient assessment, care planning, and monitoring patient condition
• Skilled in medication administration and clinical documentation
• Experience with discharge planning and patient/family education
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record (EPIC required)
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with multidisciplinary teams
• Comfort participating in performance improvement and competency validation activities
