Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality orthopedic nursing care for post-op and med-surg patients, documenting care in Cerner
• Perform dressing changes and suture/staple removal with attention to infection prevention
• Manage Foley catheters, NG tubes and wound VAC maintenance safely and effectively
• Conduct thorough assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and escalate concerns promptly
• Assist patients with mobilization using assistive devices and lifts to promote safe recovery
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for smooth handoffs, discharge planning, and excellent patient outcomes
• Support unit staffing and mentor colleagues to maintain a positive, team-focused environment

Qualifications

• Active NC RN license (required)
• BLS certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (orthopedic or med-surg experience preferred)
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR for documentation
• Comfort working night shift and providing weekend coverage every other weekend
• Team player with ability to adapt in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment

Knowledge & Skills

• Orthopedic nursing and post-operative care
• Wound care, dressing changes and wound VAC management
• Foley catheter and NG tube management
• Safe patient handling and use of lifts (Sara Stedy, Maxi Move, etc.)
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical record
• Ability to manage patient ratios typical to the unit (day and night staffing demands)
• Strong assessment, documentation and communication skills
