Roles & Responsibilities

• Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with disorders of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
• Provide professional consultations and collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, and therapists to support safe patient discharge
• Perform swallowing evaluations and administer evidence-based treatments (including FEES when indicated)
• Document patient progress, develop treatment plans, and adjust care based on multidisciplinary input
• Operate and maintain clinical equipment (endoscope, vitalStim, electrolarynx, augmentative communication devices) safely and effectively

Qualifications

• Current Hawaii State license as a Speech Language Pathologist (required)
• Current ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) certification (required)
• Current CPR certification at the BLS/HCP level (required)
• Completion of a FEES (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow) course — if not completed at hire, must be completed within six (6) months
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an SLP in an acute care setting (preferred)
• Prior FEES clinical experience and MBSImP preferred

Education

• Current Hawaii State SLP license and ASHA certification (as listed under Education/Certification and Licensure)
• BLS/HCP CPR certification
• FEES course completion (or completion within six months of hire)

Knowledge & Skills

• Assessment and diagnosis of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing disorders
• Adult swallowing evaluation and treatment, including FEES experience
• MBSImP familiarity and application in clinical practice
• Strong interdisciplinary acute care collaboration and communication skills
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-acuity hospital environment and handling exposure to body fluids and communicable conditions
