Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub for cardiovascular OR procedures across neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations — ensuring instruments and supplies are sterile and ready.
• Prepare and maintain the sterile field and surgical instruments with precision and attention to safety.
• Anticipate surgeon needs during CVOR cases and proactively pass instruments and supplies to support efficient flow.
• Work independently within established protocols and respond competently to intraoperative changes.
• Complete assigned unit tasks as delegated by RNs and communicate effectively with the surgical team.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and exercise sound judgment, tact and diplomacy in all patient and team interactions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009).
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist; must have Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) specialty experience.
• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) Certification required.
• Certification by an approved body preferred/required (NBSTSA - CST, NCCT - TS-C, or AST).
• Willingness to take on on-call duties and work four 10-hour day shifts per week.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program

Knowledge & Skills

• Proven scrub/ perioperative skills specific to CVOR cases.
• Ability to function independently and follow established protocols.
• Competence in tasks assigned by RNs and strong teamwork abilities.
• Sound clinical judgment, tact, diplomacy and strict patient confidentiality.
• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills for documentation and unit workflows.
