Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care on a busy Trauma/Telemetry surgical unit
• Monitor telemetry and promptly recognize and act on dysrhythmias
• Maintain sterile field during procedures and perform central line dressing changes and Foley catheter insertions as required
• Provide post-op care for complex surgical patients including transplant and Whipple patients
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including RT, pharmacy, IV/SWAT, and surgical teams to coordinate safe, timely care
• Document assessments and interventions accurately in Cerner
• Participate in SIMs Lab and orientation activities to demonstrate competency and uphold unit standards

Qualifications

• Active RN license (able to submit license; willingness to wait to submit is acceptable)
• BLS (AHA) required; ACLS required
• Minimum 2 years telemetry experience
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Must pass unit dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (two attempts allowed)
• Comfortable with sterile technique and able to complete pass/fail SIMs Lab skills
• Travel teams must have reliable personal vehicle and valid driver's license
• Appearance/fit-test requirements: natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men must be clean shaven for fit testing

Education

• Active RN license in good standing
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition
• Trauma and post-operative surgical care (including transplant and Whipple patients)
• Sterile field maintenance, central line care, and Foley catheter insertion
• Experience with Cerner charting system
• Ventilator adjuncts such as BiPAP and CPAP and basic ventilator collaboration with RT
• Familiarity with Phillips telemetry systems
• Wound care, lifts and restraints, and safe patient handling
• Collaboration with IV/SWAT teams and working in a fast-paced acute care environment
