Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care for patients on the Open Heart team in the CVOR, ensuring safety and excellent clinical outcomes
• Collaborate actively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and the perioperative team to coordinate complex cardiac procedures
• Maintain strict sterile technique and OR protocols throughout all phases of care
• Advocate for patients and families, providing clear communication and compassionate support before, during, and after procedures
• Document accurate, timely clinical information and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond promptly for open-heart cases when scheduled

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure required
• Minimum 3 years Operating Room experience required
• Cardiac Open-Heart experience required
• BSN preferred; candidates without BSN who commit to obtaining it within three years may be considered
• Willingness and flexibility to work mid shifts and participate in on-call rotation

Education

• BSN preferred; commitment to obtain BSN within three years acceptable with relevant experience
• Active RN licensure in appropriate jurisdiction

Knowledge & Skills

• Deep knowledge of CVOR/open-heart surgical procedures and perioperative nursing practices
• Strong teamwork and communication skills in high-acuity settings
• Proficient with sterile technique and OR safety protocols
• Ability to prioritize and respond effectively during emergent situations
• Comfortable working within a clinical ladder structure and pursuing professional growth
