Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality MedSurg and neuro-rehab nursing care to an acute neuro population, including TBI, CVA, brain tumor and transplant patients
• Perform acute patient assessment and ongoing clinical monitoring, escalating changes in condition to the interdisciplinary team
• Safely perform and document IV therapy, wound care, Foley catheter insertions, and central line dressing changes while maintaining sterile technique
• Collaborate with rehab therapists and physicians during interdisciplinary rounds to support patient-centered recovery plans
• Participate in unit-specific SIMs Lab and competency validations (Foley and central line dressing change) and apply learned skills at the bedside
• Float to other MedSurg units as needed while maintaining continuity and quality of care
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and families, supporting partnership of care and shared decision-making

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Arizona
• BLS certification required; Tech BLS for support staff
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (strong MedSurg experience required); Level 1 trauma experience is a must
• Competency in dysrhythmia recognition; candidates must pass the dysrhythmia exam (two attempts allowed)
• Competence in IV therapy, Foley catheter insertion, central line dressing changes and sterile technique; successful completion of SIMs Lab is required
• Valid driver’s license required; travel teams must provide their own vehicle
• Ability to work night shifts and required weekend coverage (4 weekends per 4 weeks)
• Professional appearance requirements as noted by facility (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit testing)

Education

• Active RN license required; BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) nursing and acute patient assessment
• Neuro Rehab care: familiarity with TBI, CVA, brain tumor post-op patients
• IV therapy and familiarity with SWAT IV team processes for difficult sticks
• Wound care management and sterile technique
• Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing change competency
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical records
• Ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary rounds and rehabilitation planning
• Comfort working in a high-volume, >500 bed hospital environment with 1:6 RN ratios
