Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental hygiene care for patients across the lifespan
• Perform thorough oral examinations, periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, and topical fluoride applications
• Take and process dental radiographs (x-rays) and accurately measure/record periodontal pockets
• Record and monitor vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, temperature) for patients
• Manage patient scheduling and ensure smooth clinic flow
• Coordinate and lead community prevention activities including health fairs, sealant clinics, and Head Start events
• Maintain hygiene supplies and ensure proper sterilization of instruments
• Collaborate with the care team and perform other duties as assigned to support patient-centered care

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency Assessment (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED
• Comfortable sitting over patients for extended periods and strong manual dexterity

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of infection control and sterilization techniques
• Understanding of principles of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate therapies
• Skillful use of dental instruments and radiography equipment
• Clinical hygiene best practices and patient education techniques
• Good oral and written communication skills and accurate clinical judgment
• Experience with community prevention activities is a plus
