Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional emergency and trauma nursing care in a busy Level 1 trauma ED — triage, assess, intervene and document with urgency and compassion
• Manage a 1:4 patient ratio, coordinating care, delegating to PCTs, and collaborating with charge nurses and the multidisciplinary team
• Perform and document emergency procedures such as Foley catheter insertion, port-a-cath support, and central line dressing changes (as clinically appropriate and per SIMs competency)
• Rapidly interpret cardiac strips and communicate critical findings to the team
• Participate in SIMs Lab and pass required clinical competency assessments to ensure sterile technique and procedural readiness
• Float between St. Joseph campuses and free-standing ERs as needed, maintaining continuity and high standards of care
• Follow hospital policies including pass/fail orientation exams, DYS exam requirements, and unit-specific protocols

Qualifications

• Active RN license eligible for practice in Arizona
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (ENPC cannot substitute for PALS)
• Minimum 6 months of Trauma Level 1 experience (required)
• Preferred: TNCC and/or ATCN certifications
• Minimum ~2 years ER experience preferred (per job notes)
• Competent with Cerner EMR and able to read Phillips monitor cardiac strips
• Demonstrated competency or willingness to complete SIMs Lab for Foley and central line/port-a-cath procedures
• Must pass DYS exam prior to accepting assignment (2 attempts allowed; failure results in 6-month DNU for specified regions)
• Travel teams must have their own vehicle
• Appearance/fit-test requirements: natural hair color, no facial piercings, men must be clean-shaven for fit testing

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong trauma and emergency nursing skills and critical thinking in high-volume settings
• Proficient in Cerner charting and electronic documentation workflows
• Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and act on urgent abnormalities
• Experience with Phillips monitors and telemetry interpretation
• Skilled in wound care, lifts and restraints, and working with RT and pharmacy teams
• Familiarity with sterile technique for lines and catheters and central line dressing maintenance
• Comfort working within a multidisciplinary team including hospitalists, intensivists, RTs and pharmacy
