Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode and color-flow Doppler echocardiograms to provide high-quality diagnostic images
• Execute transesophageal and stress echocardiography (exercise and pharmacologic) as ordered by physicians
• Conduct EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress testing with attention to detail
• Operate and maintain echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors
• Use hospital information systems for scheduling and processing studies ensuring correct documentation
• Implement infection control, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection to protect patients
• Provide preceptorship and clinical guidance to students from contracted colleges and universities
• Deliver age-specific cardiac diagnostic testing for neonatal, pediatric and adult patients with compassion and skill
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams to communicate findings and support patient care

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Successful completion of an accredited cardiovascular sonography certification program or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
• Preferred: Extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Strong experience in pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Comfort with performing transesophageal and stress echo procedures
• Ability to provide clinical instruction and precept students

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (Preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in transthoracic echocardiography (2D), M-Mode and color-flow Doppler
• Experience with transesophageal and stress echocardiography (including pharmacologic stress)
• Skilled in EKG, Holter monitoring/analysis and cardiac stress testing
• Familiar with cardiac diagnostic equipment operation and basic troubleshooting
• Knowledgeable in hospital information/scheduling systems and proper documentation
• Strong infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection practices
• Ability to teach and mentor students in a clinical setting
• Comfort working with neonatal and pediatric patient populations
