Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform accurate transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode and color-flow Doppler echocardiograms to provide high-quality diagnostic images
- Execute transesophageal and stress echocardiography (exercise and pharmacologic) as ordered by physicians
- Conduct EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress testing with attention to detail
- Operate and maintain echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors
- Use hospital information systems for scheduling and processing studies ensuring correct documentation
- Implement infection control, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection to protect patients
- Provide preceptorship and clinical guidance to students from contracted colleges and universities
- Deliver age-specific cardiac diagnostic testing for neonatal, pediatric and adult patients with compassion and skill
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams to communicate findings and support patient care
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
- Successful completion of an accredited cardiovascular sonography certification program or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
- Preferred: Extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
- Preferred: Strong experience in pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
- Comfort with performing transesophageal and stress echo procedures
- Ability to provide clinical instruction and precept students
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (Preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in transthoracic echocardiography (2D), M-Mode and color-flow Doppler
- Experience with transesophageal and stress echocardiography (including pharmacologic stress)
- Skilled in EKG, Holter monitoring/analysis and cardiac stress testing
- Familiar with cardiac diagnostic equipment operation and basic troubleshooting
- Knowledgeable in hospital information/scheduling systems and proper documentation
- Strong infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection practices
- Ability to teach and mentor students in a clinical setting
- Comfort working with neonatal and pediatric patient populations
