Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic nursing care tailored to long-term care residents
- Perform thorough nursing assessments, document findings, and create/update individualized care plans
- Accurately administer medications and therapeutics and monitor resident response
- Lead and supervise CNAs, LPNs and unit staff; ensure appropriate delegation and supervision during your shift
- Serve as charge nurse when needed and provide calm, decisive leadership in emergencies
- Communicate clearly with residents, families and interdisciplinary team members; provide education and psychosocial support
- Document resident care and progress in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and complete required reports
- Participate in competency checks, mandatory training and unit quality improvement activities
Qualifications
- Current, full and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Agency staff must hold an active Alaska license; direct hires must have applied for Alaska licensure before start)
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN, ADN or Nursing Diploma)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Clinical competency and High Risk competency per SEARHC timelines (initial competencies as required)
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred in acute or long-term care settings
- High school diploma or equivalent
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing OR Associate's degree in Nursing OR Nursing Diploma
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong nursing assessment, care planning and documentation skills
- Experience with medication administration and infection control practices
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records and accurate order transcription
- Ability to recognize and respond to clinical emergencies and escalating conditions
- Leadership, delegation and communication skills to guide multidisciplinary teams
- Familiarity operating basic and specialized medical equipment (e.g., AED)
- Comfort providing patient/family teaching and psychosocial support
