Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to progressive care patients from admission through discharge
- Perform thorough patient assessments and implement appropriate nursing interventions for hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients
- Operate and monitor advanced medical equipment including ventilators, arterial lines, chest tubes and multiple IV pumps
- Interpret telemetry and EKGs and respond quickly to changes in patient condition
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and achieve individualized patient care plans
- Act as a clinical leader on the unit and assist with precepting new staff
- Oversee and direct nursing assistants, LPNs and support staff to ensure safe, coordinated care
- Provide patient and family education, including discharge planning and follow-up needs
Qualifications
- Current Montana RN licensure (required)
- BLS, ACLS and PALS required or to be obtained within 6 months of hire
- Practice experience in an advanced Medical/Surgical unit plus recent Critical Care or Progressive Care nursing experience required
- EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
- Comfort and competency with ventilatory support, arterial/central lines, chest tubes and multiple IV pumps
- Strong assessment, critical thinking and communication skills
Education
- Degree from an accredited Nursing Program (RN)
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and advanced nursing principles and procedures
- Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
- Ventilatory support management (noninvasive and short-term invasive)
- Care of central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes and continuous bladder irrigation
- Operation of multiple IV pumps and advanced medical equipment
- Pediatric patient considerations (preferred)
- Discharge planning and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Leadership, precepting and effective team communication
