Roles & Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain an internal risk management program that keeps patients safe and the organization compliant
- Lead the organization-wide patient safety program with a focus on reducing medical errors
- Direct and facilitate Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode & Effects Analyses (FMEA) to drive system improvements
- Investigate and evaluate adverse incidents and ensure timely regulatory reporting
- Coordinate disclosure conversations and appropriate follow-up with patients, families, and care teams
- Facilitate patient safety rounds and provide risk management education to staff and leadership
- Collaborate with Medical Directors, CMO, and corporate counsel on peer review and quality-of-care matters
- Support accreditation activities, chart audits, clinical reviews, and data-driven quality initiatives
- Serve as a resource and mentor, promoting a culture of safety across the organization
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted active Registered Nursing (RN) license in Alaska (required)
- CPHRM certification required within two (2) years of hire
- Clinical competency demonstrated within 3 months and maintained every 3 years
- Minimum 3 years experience in risk management, patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
- Proven leadership in facilitating and leading cross-functional teams
- Strong communication skills for working with clinicians, leadership, patients, and legal partners
Education
- Active Registered Nursing (RN) license in Alaska (required)
- CPHRM certification (to be obtained within two years)
- Clinical competency verification within 3 months and ongoing every 3 years
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Working knowledge of regulatory standards (DNV, TJC, CMS, CARF)
- Incident investigation, disclosure management, and grievance analysis
- Accreditation and quality improvement processes, including chart audits and clinical reviews
- Ability to collaborate with medical leadership and corporate counsel on complex cases
- Comfort teaching and coaching staff on safety principles and system-based error prevention
- Data-informed approach to identifying trends and driving process changes
