Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on neonatal and newborn care in the NICU and nursery
- Perform continuous assessment and monitoring of infants, responding quickly to changes
- Implement NRP and emergency protocols when needed to support newborn stabilization
- Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists and the care team for coordinated care
- Educate and support families on infant care, feeding and discharge planning
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure adherence to unit policies and patient safety standards
- Participate in shift handoffs and multidisciplinary rounds to promote continuity of care
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to practice in Louisiana)
- NRP, ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Experience working in NICU or newborn nursery settings preferred
- Comfortable with 12-hour night shifts and critical newborn interventions
- Current immunizations and ability to pass required background and health screenings
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) with active RN status
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong neonatal assessment and monitoring skills
- Proficiency with neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and emergency response
- Knowledge of thermoregulation, feeding support and common neonatal conditions
- Effective communication with families and interdisciplinary teams
- Basic EMR documentation skills and attention to detail
