Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to medical, surgical, and orthopedic patients on a 42-bed Med Surg unit
- Monitor telemetry and respond to rhythm changes and alarms with clinical confidence
- Administer medications and titratable heparin per unit protocols and document accurately
- Chart thoroughly and efficiently in EPIC to keep the care team informed
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy (RT available 24/7) and the charge nurse to coordinate patient care
- Support and work alongside nurse aides/patient care techs to maintain safe patient ratios
- Participate in unit-specific orientation, demonstrate learned skills and pass orientation competencies
Qualifications
- Active RN license in good standing
- BLS certification (required at hire)
- Valid driver's license required at submittal (used to confirm radius eligibility)
- Minimum 1 year of recent nursing experience (Med Surg/Telemetry experience preferred)
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and meet unit scheduling needs (weekends/holidays as needed)
- Willingness to complete orientation testing (open-book skills exam; 90% required to pass)
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, Diploma, or BSN). BSN is not required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong med-surg and telemetry knowledge and comfort with common diagnoses and orthopedics
- Proficiency with EPIC charting and electronic documentation
- Medication administration skills, including heparin protocols
- Excellent patient assessment, prioritization, and clinical decision-making
- Teamwork, clear communication, and the ability to work within 1:5-6 patient ratios
- Adherence to infection control and facility policies (artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas)
