Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide advanced post-op cardiac intensive care for patients after open heart surgery with focused, high-acuity nursing
- Manage and monitor mechanical circulatory support and hemodynamic devices such as IABP and other circulatory assist devices
- Perform continuous telemetry monitoring and confidently interpret dysrhythmias and ECG strips
- Titrate vasoactive and sedative drips safely and precisely per unit protocols
- Care for patients requiring CRRT and manage related therapy coordination
- Operate and troubleshoot ventilators and other respiratory support including Vents, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm and HiFlow
- Collaborate closely with intensivists, RTs and the multidisciplinary team to deliver timely, evidence-based care
- Document thoroughly in Cerner and participate fully in unit orientation and ongoing competency assessments
Qualifications
- Active RN license (Arizona or compact RN eligible) required
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU or equivalent high-acuity cardiac ICU experience
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Experience with IABP and CRRT and post-op open heart surgery (fresh OHS) required
- Proven ability to titrate drips and manage complex vasoactive infusions
- Comfortable with mechanical ventilation management and advanced cardiac monitoring
- Must take and pass the unit dysrhythmia exam (minimum 80%) within two attempts prior to contract start
- Candidates must meet radius/employment rules: no FT/PT/PRN work with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities in the past year; travel duo requirements apply (own vehicles, schedules may differ)
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN/ASN or BSN acceptable)
- BSN not required for this role
- Unit orientation required (12 hours) and maintenance of ACLS/BLS certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and continuous telemetry monitoring
- Mechanical ventilation and respiratory support modalities (Vents, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, HiFlow)
- Management of IABP and familiarity with Impella is desired
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) experience
- IV drip titration of common ICU infusions and familiarity with sedatives and vasoactives
- Proficient charting in Cerner and unit-based documentation practices
- Familiarity with Nihon Kohden in-room monitors and reading strips at the bedside
- Strong critical thinking, rapid assessment, and interdisciplinary communication skills
