Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming) to enhance resident comfort and dignity
- Assist with safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and equipment
- Take and record vital signs accurately, reporting changes to the nursing team
- Observe and document resident behavior, mood, and condition in the chart
- Support meal assistance and feeding needs while encouraging independence
- Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control protocols
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary team to promote coordinated care
Qualifications
- Current GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification or equivalent required
- State registration or licensure as a nursing assistant where applicable
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred
- Basic CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Strong communication skills, patience, and a resident-first attitude
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a recognized GNA program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of geriatric care principles and age-related needs
- Competence with activities of daily living (ADLs) assistance
- Ability to take and accurately document vital signs and observations
- Familiarity with infection prevention and safe patient handling
- Teamwork, time management, and clear resident-centered communication
