Roles & Responsibilities

• Advocate for patients throughout the surgical experience, ensuring safety and dignity every step of the way
• Direct and supervise assigned personnel during perioperative care to deliver seamless teamwork
• Perform site verification and time-out procedures to guarantee the right patient, procedure and site
• Manage specimens, medications, and documentation accurately and according to policy
• Implement infection prevention strategies to reduce surgical site complications
• Monitor and support patient physiological systems—respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological and more—during procedures
• Communicate patient status clearly to the surgical team and across the continuum of care
• Participate in DNV program education and maintain required competencies to stay current

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the State of Oregon (required)
• Associate of Science in Nursing (required); BSN preferred
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required
• CNOR, Peri-op 101, CRASE training preferred (CRASE required if assignment extends beyond 6 months)
• Previous RN circulator experience and scrub experience preferred but not required
• Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and manage changing priorities
• Willingness to float to other departments when qualified and participate in scheduled on-call rotations

Education

• Associate of Science in Nursing (required)
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing practices including circulator responsibilities
• Medication administration and safe handling in the OR
• Specimen management and chain-of-custody procedures
• Surgical site infection prevention and retained item accounting
• Time-out/site verification processes and perioperative documentation
• Effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
• Age-specific, culturally competent, and patient-family centered care
• Conflict resolution, clinical decision-making, and supervisory skills
