Shift Type: Rotating schedule with required on-call and weekend coverage. Primarily Day 12-hour shifts 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM (may be required to start 5:30 AM if surgeon starts at 6:30 AM); Secondary 12-hour shifts 9:00 AM - 9:30 PM; 8-hour shifts 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM (may begin 5:30 AM). On-call weekdays begin at 6:00 PM; typical on-call shifts run 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM or 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM. Schedule includes weekdays, every-other-week rotations, and weekend/holiday on-call coverage (rotating including weekends and holidays).

Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver expert perioperative support by scrubbing and maintaining a sterile field for a wide variety of cases across specialties
• Set up and breakdown ORs efficiently so cases start on time and run smoothly
• Assist with specialty procedures including robotics, neuro, ortho/spine, urology, vascular, plastics, pediatrics and organ procurement
• Respond to on-call notifications within the required 30-minute response time and support emergent cases
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiology, and nursing leadership to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes
• Document procedures and perioperative details accurately in Cerner
• Participate in unit orientation and ongoing training to maintain high standards of care
• Support the team during peak volumes (30–40 cases/day across rooms) and step in where needed

Qualifications

• BLS certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years of surgical tech/OR tech experience (no first-time travelers allowed)
• Proven ability to rotate across multiple specialties and scrub a broad case mix (cardiothoracic excluded)
• Comfortable with pediatric cases and hybrid OR environments
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts and accept on-call/holiday rotations; flexible start times (may start as early as 5:30 AM)
• Familiarity with Cerner charting system preferred
• Must meet facility submission requirements (license/credentials ready to submit)

Knowledge & Skills

• Scrub and sterile technique with rigorous attention to infection control
• Perioperative processes and OR workflow across specialties
• Experience with robotics and endovascular case support
• Instrument knowledge for ortho, neuro, gyn, urology, vascular, plastics, ENT, podiatry and trauma
• Organ procurement assistance experience
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment (large case volumes: ~30–40 cases/day)
• Cerner electronic charting competency
• Strong teamwork, communication, and ability to respond quickly on-call
