Shift Type: Night shifts, 12-hour nights (3 shifts/week to meet guaranteed 36 hours). Typical night window e.g., 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; 4 total weekend shifts per 4 weeks; holidays scheduled based on unit coverage

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality med/surg nursing care for post-op and acute patients including sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infection
- Titrate heparin drips safely and follow unit protocols for medication management
- Perform and maintain competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes per SIMs Lab expectations
- Maintain strict sterile field practices and infection control to keep patients safe
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including RTs, charge RN, and resource RN to coordinate care
- Float to other med/surg/tele units as needed and adapt to unit-specific equipment and policies
- Document patient care accurately in Cerner and communicate changes in patient condition clearly
- Support unit initiatives, participate in lifts/restraints/wound care education, and contribute to a positive team culture
Qualifications
- Active RN license in the U.S. (appropriate state licensure required for assignment)
- Minimum 2 years of recent med/surg nursing experience required
- MUST have Level 1 trauma experience
- BLS certification required
- Experience with Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing care; SIMs Lab competency expected
- Comfort with sterile technique and able to pass competency-based assessments
- Experience with Cerner charting preferred
- Able to titrate heparin drips per unit protocols
- Travel assignment expectations: own vehicle available, ability to comply with facility appearance/fit test requirements (natural hair color, no facial piercings, men clean shaven for fit test), and pass employer exams such as the DYS exam
Education
- Active RN license; BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong med/surg assessment and critical thinking skills
- Familiarity with post-operative care and common acute diagnoses
- Competence in maintaining sterile field and performing catheter/line care
- Ability to work independently on nights while coordinating with charge/resource RN
- Effective communication and documentation skills in Cerner
- Wound care, restraints, and patient handling/lift knowledge
- Flexibility to float to telemetry or other med/surg areas when needed
