Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide advanced critical care nursing for ICU and post-operative cardiac patients with compassion and precision
• Manage ventilator settings and deliver ventilator care for mechanically ventilated patients
• Perform continuous hemodynamic monitoring and interpret data to guide timely interventions
• Deliver post-CABG and other cardiac surgery care, including medication administration and wound monitoring
• Collaborate closely with intensivists, cardiothoracic teams, respiratory therapy and the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Lead bedside shift reports and update white boards to ensure smooth handoffs and clear communication
• Accurately document care and assessments in Meditech and follow unit-specific policies and safety protocols
• Support complex therapies when needed, including ECMO and transplant patient care, escalating concerns appropriately

Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license required (temporary licenses are not accepted)
• Minimum 2+ years of recent ICU experience, preferably CVICU or high-acuity cardiac ICU
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Proven experience with ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring and post-operative cardiac care (post-CABG)
• Comfort with high-acuity interventions and procedures performed with intensivist support
• Meditech experience preferred
• Experience with ECMO, heart transplant or other transplant cases is a strong plus
• Professional bedside manner and commitment to bedside shift reporting

Knowledge & Skills

• Hemodynamic monitoring and trend interpretation
• Ventilator management and respiratory care for critically ill patients
• Post-operative cardiac care including post-CABG protocols
• Familiarity with ECMO patient management and CVICU workflows
• Meditech or similar electronic charting systems
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking and rapid decision making
• Clear communication and teamwork, especially during high-acuity situations
• Adherence to unit guidelines, infection control and patient safety practices
