Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, compassionate bedside care for PCU patients and their families
• Perform thorough bedside shift reports and engage patients in their plan of care
• Prioritize and manage a typical 6:1 patient assignment while triaging clinical needs
• Start and maintain IVs and manage medication administration safely
• Deliver basic wound care and maintain surgical drains with clinical confidence
• Care for nasogastric tubes and chest tubes, monitoring for complications
• Monitor telemetry, recognize cardiac rhythms, and escalate changes promptly
• Document accurately and efficiently in Meditech to ensure continuity of care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and support unit flow, including floating when needed

Qualifications

• Active RN license (required)
• BLS certification (required)
• ACLS certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with solid Med/Surg and telemetry exposure
• Proven ability to start IVs and perform basic wound care
• Comfortable with chest tube and nasogastric tube care
• Experience with Meditech or similar electronic documentation systems
• Strong prioritization, multitasking, and communication skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Meditech documentation and electronic charting
• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm recognition
• IV pumps, feeding pumps, PCA, and EKG machine familiarity
• Use of continuous pulse oximetry and SCDs, and bladder scanner operation
• Wound care, surgical drain maintenance, nasogastric and chest tube management
• Patient prioritization, time management, and multitasking in a fast-paced unit
• Effective bedside reporting and patient/family communication
