Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality progressive care/PCU nursing for post-operative and trauma patients
• Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms to detect changes quickly
• Administer and manage IV medications, including drips listed by the unit
• Perform thorough patient assessments and Q4 patient reassessments
• Collaborate with physicians, techs, and interdisciplinary team members for coordinated care
• Document care accurately in the EMR (Meditech) and communicate changes in condition
• Respond to emergencies using ACLS and BLS protocols and apply NIH Stroke Scale when indicated
• Educate patients and families on post-op care, discharge plans, and condition management

Qualifications

• Active RN license; eligibility to work in Texas or compact licensure recommended
• Minimum 1 year of recent acute care nursing experience (PCU/Telemetry/step-down experience preferred)
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications; NIH Stroke Scale competency required
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Comfort with telemetry monitoring and IV medication management
• Meditech experience preferred
• Trauma and orthopedic experience preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and step-down patient care
• Telemetry monitoring and rhythm recognition
• IV medication management and drip titration
• Post-operative nursing and surgical patient care
• ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale application
• Experience with Meditech or similar EMR systems
• Teamwork, adaptability to changing environments, and clear communication
• Ability to manage patient ratios typical for a 25-bed unit (1:4, 1:5 stepdown)
