Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to newborns in the nursery
• Manage Level 2 newborn needs including phototherapy and blood sugar monitoring
• Maintain safe patient ratios and prioritize infant safety at all times (typical ratio 1:5-6)
• Document care accurately and efficiently in Meditech and CPN EMRs
• Collaborate with nursing leadership and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care
• Support families with education and reassurance; promote bonding and breastfeeding when appropriate
• Recognize and escalate changes in newborn condition promptly and appropriately

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to practice in Texas)
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience (newborn/mother-baby or similar preferred)
• Required certifications: BLS and NRP
• Experience caring for stable newborns and Level 2 patients (phototherapy, blood sugar management)
• Comfortable working in a 1:5-6 patient ratio and delivering efficient, safe care
• Experience with Meditech or similar EMR systems preferred
• Warm, bubbly bedside manner and strong communication skills with families and staff

Knowledge & Skills

• Neonatal care best practices and Level 2 newborn procedures
• Phototherapy management and blood glucose monitoring in newborns
• Proficient documentation and charting in Meditech and CPN
• Basic infant assessment, thermoregulation, and feeding support
• Infection control and safe handling of newborns
• Team collaboration, prioritization, and time management on busy shifts
