Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based labor and delivery nursing care to patients and families
• Monitor and manage high-acuity maternal and neonatal conditions, including triage duties
• Assist and circulate for C-sections in the OR and perform scrub/ circulating duties as needed
• Administer and monitor epidurals, spinals and IV drips (including magnesium infusions) safely
• Document patient care accurately in Meditech and CPN to ensure continuity and compliance
• Support PACU recovery for post-procedure mothers and collaborate with NICU teams when required
• Actively participate in team huddles and handoffs to promote excellent patient experience and outcomes
• Float within the women’s and children’s service line as needed, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure (eligible to practice in Virginia or compact-state license as applicable)
• Minimum ~2 years recent Labor & Delivery experience (fast-paced L&D unit experience preferred)
• Current BLS, ACLS and NRP certifications required; AWHONN/Fetal Heart Rate Intermediate desirable
• Demonstrated experience with C-sections, epidurals, spinals and high-acuity maternal care
• Comfortable with OR roles (scrub and circulating) and PACU-level postoperative care
• Proficient with Meditech documentation and CPN charting workflows
• Strong teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills in urgent situations

Education

• Active RN license required (BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in maternal fetal monitoring and OB triage assessment
• Competent with perioperative support for C-sections and OR circulation
• Experienced in epidural/spinal management and IV medication/infusion oversight (e.g., magnesium)
• Ability to manage high-acuity laboring patients and escalate appropriately
• Familiarity with Meditech electronic health record and CPN documentation
• Collaborative approach working across LDR, PACU and NICU teams
