Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality outpatient and inpatient physical therapy care for all ages and diagnoses within Alaska’s PT scope
- Assess patients, develop individualized treatment plans, and modify plans based on age- and patient-specific needs
- Use evidence-based practice to inform interventions and measure outcomes
- Deliver village-based outreach when required — prepare portable programs and therapeutic tools for remote settings
- Document patient care clearly and professionally in medical records and clinical correspondence
- Communicate effectively with medical staff, peers, and patients from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Operate clinical equipment safely (e.g., ultrasound, electrical stimulation, whirlpool) and supervise therapeutic exercise
- Participate in multidisciplinary care planning to support the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation mission
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program (required)
- Alaska Physical Therapy license in good standing OR completed/ongoing FSBPT paperwork to work pending licensure
- Current BLS certification
- Hospital-based experience preferred but not required — new grads welcome
- Comfortable providing care in both clinic and village settings, including bringing portable therapy tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document care accurately
- Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with patients who may not speak English as a first language
- Basic computer skills (MS Office, e-mail, internet research) and comfort using electronic documentation
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy (accredited program) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and treatment planning across the lifespan
- Therapeutic exercise prescription and progression
- Familiarity with therapeutic modalities (ultrasound, electrical stimulation, whirlpool) and adaptive equipment
- Accurate and timely patient documentation and medical correspondence
- Evidence-based practice and ability to interpret medical literature
- Cross-cultural communication and community-oriented care
- Basic math for dosing, measurements, and documentation
- Comfortable using MS Office and internet resources for clinical research
