Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on nursing care to patients: assess, plan, implement and evaluate care with compassion and clinical skill
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and document thoroughly
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and ensure continuity
- Monitor patient status, recognize changes quickly, and escalate concerns appropriately
- Maintain accurate, timely charting in the facility’s records and follow infection control protocols
- Support patient education and encourage self-care when appropriate
- Contribute to a safe and secure environment while working professionally within a correctional facility setting
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license (California) — required
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to start
- Comfortable and professional working in a correctional healthcare environment
- Ability to pass background checks and facility-required screening
- Strong clinical judgment, dependable attendance, and clear communication skills
- Previous experience in medical/surgical, primary care, or correctional nursing is a plus
Education
- Completion of an accredited Vocational Nursing (LVN) program
Knowledge & Skills
- Medication administration and documentation best practices
- Basic assessment skills: vital signs, wound checks, and triage
- Infection prevention and standard precautions
- Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate charting
- De-escalation techniques and safe patient handling in secured settings
- Teamwork, time management, and clear patient-focused communication
