Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality stepdown/PCU nursing care for surgical, medical and occasional neuro patients
- Safely manage lines and vascular access including PICC, central lines, A-lines and dialysis fistula care
- Titrate and monitor vasoactive infusions (e.g., neosynephrine, amiodarone, cardizem) with vigilance and clinical judgment
- Perform airway management including CPAP/BiPAP and tracheostomy care when needed
- Operate and troubleshoot common unit equipment such as IV pumps, PCA pumps, bladder scanners and wound VACs
- Monitor cardiac status including telemetry, obtain 12-lead EKGs, and assist with emergent cardiac interventions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans
- Document patient care accurately and communicate changes in condition to the care team promptly
Qualifications
- Active RN license with authorization to practice in Missouri (or compact/multi-state as applicable)
- BLS required; ACLS strongly preferred or required depending on facility policy
- Demonstrated experience in stepdown/PCU or telemetry nursing (comfort with surgical, medical and neuro patients)
- Proven competence with vascular access, central/PICC line care, arterial line monitoring and dialysis fistula management
- Experience titrating vasoactive drips and managing hemodynamically unstable patients
- Skilled in airway support (CPAP/BiPAP) and tracheostomy care
- Familiarity with epidural/PCA pump management, feeding tube care and wound VAC management
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge & Skills
- Stepdown/PCU and telemetry nursing best practices
- IV insertion and vascular device access/care
- Central line, PICC and A-line management
- Vasoactive infusion titration and hemodynamic monitoring
- Use of CPAP, BiPAP, Optiflow/Vapotherm/Airvo and trach care
- Operation of IV pumps, PCA pumps, bladder scanners and wound VACs
- Cardiac monitoring skills including obtaining 12-lead EKGs, cardioversion and defibrillation
- Dialysis fistula care and post-procedural sheath removal familiarity
