Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care to individuals in the facility
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely
• Perform timely patient assessments and report changes in condition
• Document patient care clearly and comprehensively in the chart/EHR
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to deliver coordinated care
• Support health promotion, infection control, and safety protocols
• Assist with triage and escalate urgent issues according to policy
• Participate actively in orientation and ongoing training to maintain competency

Qualifications

• Current California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license required
• Graduation from an accredited Vocational Nursing program
• Willingness to complete one-week orientation prior to assignment start
• Correctional or med/surgical experience preferred but not required
• Ability to pass facility background checks and required screenings
• Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills

Education

• Completion of an accredited Vocational Nursing program (diploma or certificate)

Knowledge & Skills

• Medication administration and safe dose verification
• Patient assessment and vital sign monitoring
• Basic wound care and infection control practices
• Accurate charting and electronic health record familiarity
• Ability to work effectively in a correctional healthcare environment
• De-escalation and crisis-management techniques
• Time management and prioritization for busy shift work
