Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess patient needs and complete thorough nursing assessments, documenting clearly and promptly
- Develop individualized plans of care based on each patients assessment and clinical needs
- Implement nursing interventions and treatments according to established policies and the care plan
- Evaluate patient responses and update care plans to ensure continuous, high-quality care
- Supervise and delegate aspects of patient care to unit staff, ensuring safe, effective teamwork
- Provide leadership on the unit under the Med-Surg Nurse Manager and accept responsibility for direction of co-workers
- Communicate with interdisciplinary teams and families to coordinate patient-centered care
- Perform other assigned duties to support unit operations and patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Active Michigan RN license (LARA and/or Nursys must show Active Michigan/MI license)
- Minimum 2+ years of recent Med-Surg experience (required)
- Med-Surg Observation experience (required)
- Active American Heart Association BLS (AHA) certification (required)
- Recent travel nursing experience highly preferred
- Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years
- Current skills checklist (within 1 year) pertinent to Med-Surg specialty
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong command of the Nursing Process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
- Skilled in patient assessment and clinical documentation
- Care planning and implementation for medical and surgical patients, including oncology, obstetrics and hospice exposure
- Delegation and supervision of unit staff with clear communication
- Ability to evaluate patient response and adjust care plans accordingly
- Comfort working in a fast-paced 1:4/5 target to 1:7 patient ratio environment
