Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based labor and delivery care that supports patient choice and promotes safe vaginal birth when appropriate
• Perform fetal monitoring and interpret tracings to identify and escalate changes in fetal status
• Circulate in the operating room for cesarean deliveries and assist with intrapartum procedures such as IUPC and FSE
• Manage obstetric emergencies, including postpartum hemorrhage and magnesium sulfate protocols, with calm and decisive action
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team including midwives, CRNA, OBGYN and neonatal providers to coordinate patient care
• Document care accurately in CPN and Meditech to ensure continuity and quality reporting
• Educate and support patients and families through labor, delivery and immediate postpartum care to promote positive patient experience

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid for practice in Tennessee (or ability to obtain promptly)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience
• Current ACLS, BLS and NRP certifications required
• Fetal monitoring certification required
• Comfortable with intrapartum procedures including IUPC, FSE and OR circulating
• Ability to work rotating night shifts and meet weekend scheduling requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills in high-acuity obstetric settings
• Proficient in fetal monitoring interpretation and maternal-fetal physiology
• Experience with CPN and Meditech documentation systems
• Skilled in emergency obstetric interventions and postpartum hemorrhage management
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with midwives, CRNAs and physician teams
• Patient-centered approach that supports individualized birth plans and lactation-friendly care
