Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical ventilation and perform ventilator adjustments to optimize patient respiratory status
• Wean patients from mechanical ventilation and lead evidence-based extubation planning
• Perform airway management including tracheostomy care, suctioning, and nasal/oral airway placement
• Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and apply results to clinical decision-making
• Administer respiratory medications and aerosol therapies safely and accurately
• Troubleshoot high-pressure alarms and other ventilator-related events quickly and effectively
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in a large academic medical center to coordinate patient care
• Float between campuses as needed while maintaining continuity and quality of respiratory therapy services

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification preferred
• OH State respiratory license (Ohio) preferred/required per facility policy
• BLS required; ACLS and CRT preferred
• Minimum ~2 years of respiratory/critical care experience (listed as 2 years)
• High School Diploma plus College diploma and/or transcripts required
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
• Previous travel experience preferred but not required

Education

• High School Diploma required
• College diploma and/or transcripts required
• RRT credential preferred (certification)

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation management (GE ventilators preferred; Hamilton ventilators also noted)
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP and CPAP proficiency
• Tracheostomy care and pulmonary hygiene techniques
• Metered dose inhaler (MDI) and nebulizer medication delivery systems
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Experience with airway devices, suctioning, and extubation procedures
• Troubleshooting ventilator alarms and patient-ventilator synchrony issues
• Medication administration relevant to respiratory care (e.g., bronchodilators, inhaled therapies, inhaled nitric oxide)
