Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on labor and delivery care, including labor, recovery and newborn transition assessments
• Continuously monitor fetal status and interpret fetal monitoring tracings to guide safe care decisions
• Perform newborn assessments and stabilization, ensuring smooth transitions to couplet care or NICU as needed
• Respond effectively to obstetric emergencies (shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, urgent C-section activations)
• Assist with inductions (Pitocin, Cervidil), vacuum/forceps deliveries and intrauterine monitoring
• Collaborate with neonatologists via tele-med and NICU team for intermediate newborn care
• Document care accurately in Meditech and CPN, maintaining clear communication with the multidisciplinary team
• Support patient- and family-centered care through education, daily rounding and safety-focused practices

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (able to work in Tennessee or obtain TN licensure prior to start)
• Minimum ~2 years experience in Labor & Delivery (clinical experience in L&D required)
• Certifications required: BLS, NRP and formal Fetal Monitoring training
• Comfort with Meditech electronic documentation and CPN central monitoring
• Experience with inductions, C-sections, assisted deliveries and common OB emergencies
• Strong teamwork skills and willingness to float within facility when needed
• Able to work rotating nights, weekends and holidays per unit schedule

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN preferred)
• Additional unit-specific training/certification in fetal monitoring recommended

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of labor and delivery workflows and couplet care
• Skilled in fetal monitoring interpretation and electronic fetal monitoring (EFM)
• Proficient in newborn assessment, transition and neonatal intermediate care principles
• Familiarity with Meditech documentation and CPN monitoring systems
• Clinical skills for managing inductions, C-sections and assisted deliveries
• Calm, decisive critical thinking in high-acuity situations
• Clear, compassionate communication with patients, families and interdisciplinary teams
